SET Waiver/Substitution Policy and Procedure

Extenuating circumstances may occasionally prevent a student from completing his or her Engaged Learning Graduation Requirement. In those exceptional situations, the student may apply for a waiver or substitution of one or more of the requirements. The decision to grant a waiver or substitution of a requirement will be at the discretion of the SET Waiver Committee.

A student wishing to apply for a waiver or substitution of the Engaged Learning Graduation Requirement must contact the Engaged Learning Office to obtain a SET Waiver Application no later than 90 days prior to the expected graduation date. Upon receipt of the completed SET Waiver Application, the Assistant Director of Engaged Learning will appoint three members from the Engaged Learning Advisory Board to the SET Waiver Committee, with at least one member being a faculty member from the student’s academic school (SBUS, SNHS, etc.). The SET Waiver Committee will review the application materials submitted by the student and render a decision. The student will be notified in writing of the committee’s decision.
