At Robert Morris University (RMU) learning takes place both in and out of the classroom.  Students are encouraged to excel in their courses and to become actively involved in campus and community life.  The newly established Office of Engaged Learning & Community Involvement (ELCI) exists to assist students in finding meaningful and challenging ways to get involved, develop new skills, and build their resumes.  Bringing together the strengths of the former Office of Engaged Learning and the former Office of Student Civic Engagement, the new office has oversight for the Student Engagement Transcript (SET), Community Service, Alternative Spring Break, Nonprofit Leadership Association certificate program, and voter registration, among other initiatives.
Fulfilling a minimum of two of the first six categories of the Student Engagement Transcript (SET) is a graduation requirement.  Details can be found by clicking on the Engaged Learning link on the left of the homepage.  SET categories include Arts, Culture, & Creativity; Transcultural/Global Experiences; Undergraduate Research; Service; Leadership; and Professional Experience; as well as the 7th category, Special Recognition/Participation/Participation, which does NOT count toward the graduation requirement.  The ELCI connects students with a wide variety of activities that fulfill the SET graduation requirement.  Additionally, the ELCI itself offers programs that fulfill the Service and Professional Experience categories - as mentioned above.  Information about these programs can be found by clicking on the Community Involvement link on the left of the homepage.
There are literally hundreds of ways that students can become actively involved in campus and community life.  Any student who needs information about Engaged Learning and Community Involvement is encouraged to stop by the ELCI Office located in the Student Life suite on the second floor of Nicholson Center, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
